Student Learning and Teaching Effectiveness Evaluations
Advanced Cell Biology, hybrid, Summer 2017, Univ. of New Mexico
Students seemed to enjoy this hybrid course, although it was still very intense with lots of reading and outside-of-class work, students seemed to benefit from the extra days to read and work online instead of having class each day. In class, we focused on active learning discussions, worksheets, and problem solving activities to re-enforce the topics from the readings. Advanced Cell Biology, Summer 2016, Univ. of New Mexico
Students seemed to enjoy the course material and teaching methods. They felt I was knowledgeable, approachable, and cared about their learning. The course was very intense as a short summer course, however I think that I will change how I assign homework for a class like this in the future to help students get the most out of it.

Students seemed pleased with instruction saying that I was helpful for learning, open to questions, and wanted students to succeed. Many students felt that grading was very harsh in this course. I think that by giving clearer expectations for grades and assignments these feelings would be more positive since the grades themselves were good and the distribution aligned with other sections.

Students seemed generally positive about teaching style. In the future, I will try to make sure students are aware of lab expectations and rules as well as trying to prepare lectures to head off misunderstandings instead of needing to deal with these all during class time. Reviewing course goals and concepts will help students monitor their own progress in the course.
